Arlington County Board Seeks Resident Feedback on Ranked Choice Voting

The Arlington County Board is currently collecting community feedback on the use of Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) in the 2023 primary County Board elections. Residents and voters can share their opinions on and experiences with RCV in Arlington using an online feedback form, which closes on July 5. Residents can also write to dbarrera@arlingtonva.us or countyboard@arlingtonva.us or call 703-228-3130 to submit written and verbal comments.

The feedback form is 3 to 5 minutes long, and users remain anonymous.

Findings will be presented to the County Board at its July 2023 meeting, where the Board will also consider whether to extend the use of RCV to the November 2023 General Election.

About Ranked Choice Voting in Arlington

In July 2020, the Virginia General Assembly passed a bill allowing localities to implement RCV in elections of members of a County Board of Supervisors or a City Council. After public engagement in Fall 2022 on the possible use of Ranked Choice Voting, the Board adopted the pilot use of RCV in the 2023 County Board primary election.
